Additive Manufacturing of Nanosensors

Nanostructures such as 1D nanotubes and 2D materials have shown unique properties for highly sensitive, ultra-low-power sensor applications. Today, the biggest barrier for the commercialization of nanostructure-based sensors is the lack of an industrial manufacturing process with a high device yield. As part of the external pagenanoAssembly consortium, we develop a high-speed pick-and-place process for ultraclean carbon nanotube (CNT) field-effect transistors, which function as ultra-low-power toxic gas (NO2) sensors, strain sensors, and electromechanical resonators. This process flow includes adapted device designs, material selection with high-speed optical imaging and machine learning, and automated assembly with computer vision.
